
■ Application procedure of inter-library loan service and the available scope
【STEP-1】
Verify whether the libraries of the University own the material, using the Kansai University Library searching system (KOALA).
【STEP-2】
If none of the libraries of the University own the material, identify which external library or institution own the material using NACSIS Webcat or other catalogues. If you cannot find the location of the material, consult a librarian at the counter of the General Library or the library on each campus.
【STEP-3】
After finding out the library owning the material, make a request for the inter-library loan service at the counter of the General Library or the library on each campus. You can utilize the service in following ways.
1. Visiting the library of other university or external institution
You can visit external library to read or photocopy materials unavailable in the libraries of Kansai University. Most libraries except for public libraries require a letter of introduction. Fill out an "Application Form for Letter of Introduction" and submit it to the reference counter or the Takatsuki Campus Library prior to the visit.
<Notices>
- It takes two to three days to confirm the availability of the material and date with the library owning the material that you want to use.
- Make sure to bring the "letter of introduction" and your ID card when visiting the library owning the material.
- In principle, you can use the material only on the day when you visit the library.
- Follow the instructions of the library owning the materials when using them.
2. Ordering a photocopy of material
If the library owning the material is located at a distant place or if you cannot go there by yourself, you can order a photocopy of the material from other library owning it. Fill out an "Inter-library Loan Request Form" and submit it to the counter of the General Library or the library on each camps. You can also make the order via the online service.
<Notices>
- Actual expenses for photocopying and postage will be charged to the user of the service.
(Photocopying costs 35-50 yen per sheet. Shipping charge and a transfer fee are also charged.)
- Some materials can be photocopied only half or less the volume of them due to the Copyright Law.
- It usually takes 10-14 days to obtain the photocopy.
- The user is required to clarify the source of information about how he/she identified the material's location including the ID number of NACSIS Webcat (e.g., "AN10137610").
- Cancellation will not be accepted, once applied.
3. Ordering material from other university or external institution
You can order materials from some external institutions including National Diet Library. Fill out the "Inter-library Loan Request Form" and submit it to the counter of the General Library or the library on each camps. You can also make the order via the online service.
<Notices>
- Initial and returning shipping cost (registered mail fees) will be charged to the user of the service.
- In general, magazines, reference books and rare books cannot be ordered.
- You cannot check out the ordered book. Referring the material is permitted only in the University's Library.
- It usually takes one to two weeks to obtain the material. The number of the days varies depending on the library sending the material.
- Observe the due date of return designated by the lending library.
- The user is required to clarify the source of information about how he/she identified the material's location, including the ID number of NACSIS Webcat (e.g., "BA5426990X").
- Cancellation will not be accepted, once applied.
4. Ordering material unavailable in domestic libraries from an overseas library
Some materials unavailable in domestic libraries can be ordered from overseas institutions if their location is identified. Fill out an "Inter-library Loan Request Form" and submit it to the counter of the General Library or the library on each camps and Consult with a librarian in charge.
<Notices>
- Actual expenses necessary for delivering the material including shipping cost will be charged to the user of the service. The expenses varies depending on the institution sending the material.
Example: If you request the British Library (U.K.) to send a photocopy of material, it may cost 2,200 to 2,500 yen per document.
- The number of days required to deliver also varies depending on institutions. It may take a few months.
- In some cases, the users of the service themselves need to transfer charges for international order.
- Some materials can be photocopied only half or less the volume of them due to the Copyright Law.
- The user is required to clarify the source of the information about how he/she found the material.
- Cancellation will not be accepted, once applied.
